5. Uniting Great Lakes–St. Lawrence groups through the Biinaagami Project

Biinaagami Logo

Swim Drink Fish in collaboration with Canadian Geographic has developed the Biinaagami Project- A collaborative effort bringing community water groups together around shared responsibility for Great Lakes St Lawrence watershed.

Translated from Anishinaabemowin, Biinaagami means pure, clean water. Biinaagami is a multimedia, change-provoking initiative rooted in Indigenous Knowledges. Through ceremony, mapping, inclusive storytelling, augmented reality, experiential learning, community water hubs and ecosystem restoration, Biinaagami aims to rebuild just and healthy relations between wildlife, people and place in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence watershed.

As part of Swim Drink Fish’s efforts through Biinaagami, we are stewarding a community of organizations and businesses working towards the environmental and cultural sustainability of the Great Lakes region, amplifying community voices, and spearheading environmental restoration and monitoring efforts around the Great Lakes basin.
