Vancouver Community comes together to Protect the Salish Sea

On World Oceans Day, June 8th, Vancouver came together to celebrate clean water and a healthy Salish Sea through both the launch of the Swim Drink Fish Vancouver 2021 Water Monitoring Report and the official proclamation of the Year of the Salish Sea (June 8th 2022 to June 7th 2023).

Swim Drink Fish’s Fraser Riverkeeper, Sadie Caron presenting our findings.

We appreciate all of our amazing community scientists for devoting their spare time to volunteer with us in 2021 by helping to sample the waters of False Creek and characterize the marine litter collected by our trash skimmers that were sponsored by Peter Wall Charitable Foundation.

We are excited for our new sponsors of the trash skimmers, WhiteWater, who have already been out volunteering and helping to clean up our oceans.

Thank you to all the organizations who came out to share how they are working to protect our waters, Year of the Salish Sea, Georgia Strait Alliance, Surge, True or False Creek, False Creek Watershed Society, and Friends of False Creek.

Georgia Strait Alliance empowering our community.

Thank you to Salmon Safe, Saje Wellness, Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics, Rain or Shine, and Patagonia for your thoughtful donations.

WhiteWater, Healthy Watersheds Initiative, Sitka Foundation, RBC Foundation, Canada Summer Jobs, Eco Canada, Pacific Spirit Park Society, Salt Water Digital, SMAK, Impact Engineering, Peter Wall Charitable Foundation as well as the individuals and companies who have donated to Swim Drink Fish, we greatly appreciate all of your support and generosity, the work we have been able to accomplish would not be possible without organizations and people like you who share our vision for access to swimmable, drinkable, fishable water for everyone.

Thank you again to all those who came out to celebrate with us, it was a lovely evening coming together to connect and protect our waters and kickoff the Year of the Salish Sea. We look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together in 2022.
