The Edmonton Hub Results

The Edmonton Hub follows the Alberta Safe Beach Protocol (MOE, 2019), following the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Method 1600, the protocol uses Enterococci bacteria as an indicator organism for fecal contamination. Enterococci levels are measured using calibrator cell equivalents (CCE) The guidelines state that a sample fails if Enterococci levels > 6400 CCE, and a sample passes if Enterococci levels < 1280 CCE. At levels between 6400 and 1280 CCE, microbial source tracking will be conducted by the laboratory to determine whether human or ruminant Bacteroides species are present. If present, the water quality is deemed unsatisfactory;
