Waterkeeper asks MOE to clarify use of US standards in Waterloo

Mr. Kal Haniff
Director, West Central Region
Ministry of the Environment
Hamilton Regional Office
12th floor, 119 King St. W.
Hamilton, ON L8P 4Y7

Dear Mr. Haniff,

Please find enclosed Lake Ontario Waterkeeper's Laurel Creek and the Grand River: Bacteria Monitoring Report. We hope the report forms part of a process at the Ministry that will ensure communities can safely enjoy the Grand River.

Of particular concern in the report is the City of Waterloo's use of US EPA guidelines as a standard for compliance. We hope by raising this issue with your office, you can clarify the Minister's position on the use of foreign guidelines.

Thank you for your assistance.

Yours truly,

Mark Mattson
Waterkeeper & President
