Gala Blog #5: Volunteers, we need you!

There's a long list of things to do, especially on the day of the gala. And volunteers are a big part of the event's success! (Photo: Lake Ontario Waterkeeper)

Fun fact about the Waterkeeper Gala: it takes 100 volunteers to make the event run. The Gala is hands-down our biggest volunteer event of the year.

As guests arrive, pose for photos, mingle, and enjoy their dinners, our team of dedicated volunteers is working behind the scenes to create the perfect event.

Volunteers take your coat. They point you to your table. They guide media through the event. They assist our performers. They even carry the art to the stage for the auction.

Volunteers also get started long before event day. Our Organizing Committee came together in the winter. Our Co-Chairs and auctioneer work tirelessly for months. By the time the event rolls around, we’re a close-knit family.

Gala volunteers are a talented, accomplished group of people who could be doing anything with their time. They are our real-life family members, who come to support the staff. They are professionals who lend their experience and their networks to the cause. They are students who want to hone their skills as they embark on their careers.

I’m humbled by the fact that every year,100 caring people leave their families at home. They choose to dedicate their precious time to raising funds for swimmable, drinkable, fishable water. That makes them leaders.

If you’re a guest at this year’s gala, please thank a volunteer. They deserve the recognition.

If you’d like to volunteer and be part of our behind-the-scenes family, sign up here! Amy is our volunteer coordinator and she can’t wait to hear from you!

It’s a great way to experience the sold-out event. We even provide a catered dinner.

Thank you!
