JOB OPPORTUNITY: Content Coordinator/ Webmaster (Contract)
Waterkeeper is seeking a content coordinator for a four-month contract to help complete and launch three exciting new website projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled webmaster who wants to use their talents to help create a clean water future for Canadians.

What you’ll be doing
- polishing and posting video, audio, and text-based stories to a story-mapping website to be launched later this fall
- creating the templates for/ publishing an interactive blueprint on environmental law and investigations on waterkeeper.ca (a Squarespace site)
- migrating content from the old waterkeeper.ca website to the existing site
- creating an updated version of the Waterkeeper Gala (www.waterkeepergala.ca)
Our web projects, including Waterkeeper Swim Guide, have been featured in national media and are used by hundreds of thousands of people to access water quality information. You’ll get to work with a close-knit team including an experienced developer and a designer. This is the perfect opportunity if you’re looking to develop a portfolio to help secure a full-time position or build a client base.
Required skills and experience
To apply for the position, you must have the following qualifications:
- Be very detail-oriented, able to organize information and content
- Be very comfortable using at least one content management system (e.g., Squarespace, Wordpress) and able to demonstrate experience managing or contributing to a CMS
- Have excellent problem-solving skills
- Basic photo editing skills (cropping, resizing)
- Basic video editing skills (Final Cut experience is ideal, but iMovie or similar is fine)
- Have a minimum portfolio of 2 website, video, or comparable projects that you worked on, either as part of a paid position, on spec, as a volunteer, or simply for your own interest
- Have a degree or certificate from an accredited post-secondary institution (college, university, etc.) (* this is a requirement of the program that funds the position)
- Be 30 years old or younger at the time of the internship
- Be out of school and seeking employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident, or a protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Knowledge of Squarespace, Wordpress, and Salesforce are not required, but if you have used these tools in the past, please let us know in your cover letter. Similarly, if you love to write, let us know. There may be opportunities to create your own content for these projects.
Contract details
This position is funded by the YMCA Digital Skills Youth Internship Program. Compensation and hours are dictated by the program - you will work full-time for 16 weeks and/or a total of 560 hours.
