Introducing the new Swim Guide – the next phase in keeping you informed about your local beaches and water quality

Find the beaches nearest to you right from Swim Guide's homepage!

Since its inception in 2011, Swim Guide has helped its users discover great places to swim while simultaneously helping protect their health.

Swim Guide’s mission is to help beach-goers protect swimmable water and prevent waterborne illnesses.

We built Swim Guide for one reason: we want people to explore, enjoy, and fall in love with the beach so that their waterbody will be protected for generations to come.

Unfortunately, reliable facts and figures about beach water quality are hard to find and understand. So we started compiling our own water quality database. And it grew, and grew, and grew.

As Swim Guide continues to grow, our users want to know more about the waters they love. They want to know what  wildlife is sharing the beach with them, how to protect themselves from blue-green algae, what climate change is doing to their beach, and why stand-up-paddleboarding is so darn popular.

Today, we introduce an all-new Swim Guide website (www.theswimguide.org). It has all the same functions as the old Swim Guide, but with a few key additions.

You can still search for a beach either by name or on the map, find up-to-date water quality information, and report pollution.

You can now also find beach weather information, and gain knowledge on a variety of topics by exploring the new “Beach Basics” section.

Beach Basics was created to provide our users with even more answers to the questions they have about recreational water. It is your essential guide to life on the beach.

Find answers to common questions asked about recreational water in Swim Guide's new Beach Basics – your essential guide to life on the beach. Categories covered: Lifestyle & Activities, Environmental Awareness, Health & Safety, and Beach Kids.

Beach Basics provides Swim Guide users with articles and additional information on a wide variety of topics. In addition, influential people with a strong connection to water will be profiled, such as surfer and professional photographer Clark Little, Authors Peter Neushul and Peter Westwick, and Joe MacInnis the physician turned aquanaut.

To make finding information easier, Beach Basics is broken into four categories: Lifestyle & Activities, Environmental Awareness, Health & Safety, and Beach Kids.

The new Swim Guide helps you:

  • Find your closest beach in addition to knowing which beaches pass water quality standards

  • Gain knowledge on water quality, environment, and lifestyle information.

We hope you will be inspired to share this knowledge and your love for beaches with your family and friends.

Stay tuned as there will be even more changes to the site in the upcoming weeks.

Swim Guide's very-loved map is still a major feature in the new version. Stay tuned for upcoming updates because it's going to get even better!
