Melanie Price Swimming Lake Ontario to Raise Funds for Lake Ontario Waterkeeper

BURLINGTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 6, 2011) - On August 12th Melanie Price will attempt to swim over 40km across Lake Ontario to raise funds for Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, a registered charity working to restore and care for Lake Ontario. Melanie hopes to increase awareness of the need to protect this natural resource. To "help put the Great back into the Lake" and help Melanie reach her fundraising goal, please donate at: CanadaHelps.org.

Melanie is an accomplished athlete who is constantly challenging herself, participated in numerous swimming, running and triathlon events in varying distances. Melanie's love affair with Lake Ontario began as part of a relay team crossing in 1995 and further developed while training for the 2009 Louisville Ironman with the Lake Ontario Swim Team.

Besides the distance, which will have Melanie continuously in the water for approximately 15 to 21 hours, without a wetsuit, Melanie may battle cold, rough waters. "Although there are many variables out of my control, making the outcome less than certain, I am proud of my efforts, as swimming for the health of Lake Ontario, the source of drinking water for 4.5 million people, is important." Melanie believes that the more people get out in it and along its shorelines, the more people will care and come to love it the way she does.

Failure is not a word in Melanie's vocabulary. "Failing is when one lets fear stop them from even trying" states Melanie. Melanie's enthusiasm, courage and care for the environment are inspirational to those around her.

Accipiter Radar is delighted to support the crossing and will track it via a live link on Price's website www.melaniepriceadventures.blogspot.com, where one can also access more information about her Lake Ontario swim.
