Goodbye, Uncle Eric Mattson

Lake Ontario lost a great friend this week. "Uncle" Eric Mattson passed away in Toronto on December 25, 2011. Uncle Eric was one of Lake Ontario Waterkeeper's earliest supporters and a great inspiration and friend to the staff members who passed through our office over the years. Here is his full obituary:

Eric Olaf Mattson

Born April 15, 1938 in Kingston. Educated at Loyola College, Montreal, worked at U of T. Eric died on Christmas Day, 2011 at St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, with his family at his side. Predeceased by his mother Margaret Mattson (neé Brophy), father Harold Bror Mattson, brothers Harold, Joseph, and Christopher Ringdal, and sister Margaret Solve Mattson. Lovingly remembered by sisters-in-law Jackie Mattson and Maite Mattson, many nephews, nieces and friends who admired his simplicity, intelligence, and passion for life.

A burial service will be held Thursday, December 29 at Sacred Heart Church on Wolfe Island at 2 p.m. A celebration of Eric’s life will be held in Toronto in the New Year.
