The public intervenes at Darlington Day 2 hearing

The Day 2 relicensing hearing for the Darlington Nuclear Power Plant starts today. During the hearing members of the public, NGOs and community groups that applied to intervene will raise their concerns in front of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).

The scale of the public response has already demonstrated that there are many folks with concerns about the project. Over 20 community groups and 30 individuals will be making oral presentations to the Commission. During the hearing the Commission will also consider the 60+ written submissions that were filed by individuals and community groups in September.

The Day 2 hearing will take place over four long days. The morning is set aside for presentations by Ontario Power Generation and the CNSC staff. Presentations from individuals and community groups will begin Monday afternoon and continue through to the end of the hearing on Thursday. The CNSC limits all public presentations to 10 minutes, followed by a question period.
