MEDIA ADVISORY: 4-day hearing on future of Darlington nuclear power plant begins today; Waterkeeper among the first to present
MEDIA ADVISORY
(November 2, 2015) Courtice, Ontario - This morning, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission begins the public portion of its hearing into Ontario Power Generation’s request for a new licence for the Darlington Nuclear Power Plant. The hearing will last for four days and feature presentations from individuals and community organizations.
Lake Ontario Waterkeeper is scheduled to present around 1:45 pm on Monday, November 2, 2015.
Waterkeeper will argue that the current plan poses a threat to Lake Ontario and should not be licenced for an unprecedented 13-years. Fish kills and stormwater contamination, in particular, threaten the lake, which provides drinking water to 9-million people.
Waterkeeper will post daily updates from the hearing at www.waterkeeper.ca.
