Teva Launches ‘Pair for a Foot’ on World Water Day, March 22
Long-term initiative will help protect over four million linear feet of global and Canadian waterways in 2011
Toronto, ON. March 21, 2011 – Throughout 2011, Teva® (a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation, NASDAQGS: DECK) will continue its commitment to clean water through a new initiative called ‘Pair for a Foot.’ The international program will help protect one linear foot of global waterways for every pair of Teva shoes and sandals sold in 2011. Globally, Teva estimates ‘Pair for a Foot’ will help preserve 4.3 million feet of waterways in 2011.
In Canada specifically, the ‘Pair for a Foot’ initiative will support Teva’s longtime partnership with Waterkeeper Alliance as its local chapters work to create safe, clean watersheds. With Teva’s support, several major water-preservation projects will be kicking off in the summer of 2011, including Lake Ontario's first beach preservation tour, anti-polluter patrols of the Fraser River in British Columbia, and water quality sampling in the Ottawa River.
“At Teva, we make footwear for outdoor adventurers who play in, on and around water,” says Andy Prendergast, Senior Vice President, Teva Canada. “And as longtime supporters of Waterkeeper Alliance in Canada, we are thrilled to be able to enroll Teva consumers into the ‘Pair for a Foot’ program through our network of retailers in partnership with Waterkeeper Alliance.”
Last year, Teva donated $100,000 to the Waterkeeper Alliance’s ‘Save Our Gulf’ initiative, a fundraising and awareness campaign fighting to protect the Gulf Coast communities and environment from the long-term impact of the BP oil disaster. The emergency donation from Teva assisted in the effort to save marine life, wildlife, beaches and waterways that are relied upon for both fishing and recreation.
“The ‘Pair for a Foot’ program is a wonderful way for Teva’s Canadian customers to make a difference locally,” says Mark Mattson, President, Lake Ontario Waterkeeper. “With every pair of Teva’s sold at participating retailers, Canadians can help make real improvements in the lakes and rivers where they swim, drink, fish and paddle.”
