Ready for Swimmable Water Weekend?

Swimmable Water Weekend kicks off one week from today. This is a worldwide event to raise awareness for the important role water plays in our daily lives.

How are you planning to commemorate Swimmable Water Weekend?

It's easy to participate. On July 26-28, use your favourite social media tool to share a photo that shows what swimmable water means to you. Tag it #SwimmableWater and it will become part of a global portrait of swimmable water. (Not on social media? No problem! Email us your photo or story and we'll add it for you.)

Join us from 11:00 - 3:00 at Ward’s Island Beach

We want to know what swimmable water means to you. If swimmable water means freedom from the office or escape from the heat, show us what that looks like. If swimmable water means time with the family and friends, show us. And if your waterway isn’t swimmable, then show us that, too.

Headed to the beach this weekend? Use Swim Guide to find a beach that meets water quality standards, and snap some photos early. People have already started submitting images (check them out) and we’ll leave the feed up until August.

Reasons to celebrate Swimmable Water Weekend July 26 - 28:

1. We can’t take swimmable water for granted. With more than 6,000 beach closures on the Great Lakes each year, if the water is clean enough for swimming we should celebrate.

2. We work hard 364 days a year for swimmable, drinkable, fishable water. Let’s take one day to pause and remember why we do what we do (and why you support us).

3. Love nature? Ontario water quality standards for protecting human and aquatic life are the same. When a beach is posted, it means the ecosystem is in trouble. Nature needs swimmable water, too.

4. It isn’t often that you can call a day at the beach community service, so take advantage of the opportunity to spend a day at the beach!
