Kingston Hub Monitoring Sites

The Kingston Hub monitors multiple sites every Summer. Every site that is sampled also has an accompanying Environmental Health and Safety Survey (EHSS) that provides foundational knowledge of the site and its associated risks. Explore our Kingston Sites and their EHSS’s below!

Hospital Beach

Hospital Beach is a small stone beach with shallow water that’s perfect for swimming, picnicking, or just enjoying a view of the lakeSurrounded by lots of green space and beside Lake Ontario Park, this beach is a popular spot for families, hospital staff, and anyone enjoying the Waterfront Pathway or the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

Olympic Harbour

Olympic Harbour Beach is a small stone beach located at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. The site is loved by scuba divers who use the beach as a launch point to explore the many shipwrecks in the area, and by dog owners who bring their dogs swimming at the beach.

Arrowhead Park

Arrowhead beach is an ideal place to swim, kayak and bring your dog for a day at the beach. Beach is sandy and has a gradual depth. Lots to see here including sailboats as CFB Yacht Club is within this area.

Doug Fluhrer Park

Doug Fluhrer Park is located on the shore of the Great Cataraqui River in Kingston’s Inner Harbour. The park is used by community members for wildlife viewing and conservation initiatives, picnicking, paddling, community events, art installations, and festivals. The paved pathway through the park is a popular walking route and is part of the Urban K&P Trail. Fluhrer park is also home to Kingston’s Street Art Wall.

Confederation Basin

Confederation Basin is located along the St. Lawrence River and is in the heart of Downtown Kingston next to Battery Park. This park is a popular spot for tourism and picnicking, and the waterfront trail that spans the length of Confederation Basin is often used by families and dog-walkers during the spring and summer months.

How do we know where to sample?

  • The site is a place where people recreate in the water (swimming, fishing, boating etc.)

  • The site is not currently monitored or is under monitored

  • The site may be vulnerable to pollution that could degradade the water quality and negatively impact it’s function as a habitat
